Arran Apartments is the only self catering property in Ayrshire and Arran to have a Tripadvisor Certificate of Excellence, Visit Scotland 4 stars and have been Awarded Category 2 Accessibility. When the house was renovated, care was taken to ensure that all the criteria for Category 2 Accesibility were fulfilled. The certificate is on display in the apartment. No other self catering properties have this award in the area but may be self assessed rather than be awarded following external assessment against national criteria with international recognition.
This level of accessibility caters for the needs of assisted wheelchair users - visitors who have help with them to move between their wheelchair and eg bed without the need of a hoist or other similar specialist equipment. This level of accessibility is also suitable for visitors who do not need a wheelchair but for whom ease of access without stairs is important as well as for parents who have young children in prams.
All doors and movement areas are wide enough for a wheelchair or other mobility aids. Light switches and door handles are all within the recommended height for wheelchair use. There is level parking at the top of the drive leading to extensive decking which is accessed by a ramp that fulfills the gradient required by Building Regulations and has hand rails at both sides. The decking is at the same level as the floor within the house and leads directly into the house via a low threshold door.
We can supply, free of charge, aids for use in the bathroom. There is a bath with an electric shower above, for which there is a permanent handrail with a bathstool available if required. There is no separate shower cubicle. Also available is either a raised toilet seat or a support frame for around the toilet. There is ample space for movement in the bathroon and a wheelchair or chair can fit under the wash hand basin.
The certification, however, does not take into account support required for visitors with visual, hearing or any other form of support needs. So, please contact us if you wish to discuss any support requirements you may need for your stay and we will do our utmost to assist. In the case of medical support required we are situated right beside the hospital, our medical services are very skilled in dealing with the diverse needs of visitors. However for visitors with complex medical requirements it is advantageous for our GPs to know in advance so that they are prepared.
Assistance dogs are very welcome, just let us know when you are booking
Should you require assistance on the ferry, please contact Caledonian MacBrayne as they are very helpful indeed. If you are travelling by car there is a lift to the passenger decks or passengers can be taken aboard by a Cal Mac motorised wheelchair.
